easyJet is one of the world's leading low-cost airlines and highly visible brands, set up by Stelios Haji-Ioannou in 1995.
Ideally...
When easyJet was preparing for its 10th anniversary celebrations, the internal communications team was looking for writers who could produce a special commemorative book for staff.
This was no ordinary writing or editing job. The company's history had never been told before. It required researching visuals as well as words and working in close collaboration with the communications team and designers on the look and feel of an imaginative centerpiece of the company's internal celebrations programme.
Getting on with the job
We had to start from scratch. Brainstorming ideas and concepts before embarking on research that embraced everyone – from Stelios to cabin crew, from Ljubljana to Liverpool.
We set the company's history in the context of global events. We had great fun unearthing hundreds of stories from the past, balanced with visions of the future. All edited and shaped into chapters reflecting personal and collective experiences of an extraordinary company and its visionary founder.
A job well done
The 124-page hardback we produced over 6 months was given out as a gift to 7,500 employees and contractors across Europe.
"This book is for you, from you, about you," said Stelios in the foreword.
The book turned out to be so popular, it spawned a new forum on the easyJet intranet forum where staff sang its praises:
"The book looks great and once I started reading it on the tube I could not put it down. Really something for everyone to be proud of and as well as the amazing achievements that have been made, the passion and humour from staff really comes through."
"I received my anniversary book this morning, and found it to be a pleasure to read and very interesting to see how far the company I work for has come. I was very impressed with the work that had gone into it...So I would just like to say, well done to everyone involved, and thanks for my copy, it's a great keepsake!!! And no, I won't be selling it on ebay!!!"
